PHARMACY 767 - Clinical Pharmacokinetics Module
Welcome to the PHARMACY 767 Clinical Pharmacokinetics module.
This module deals with clinical pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics. Emphasis is placed on the use of medicines in humans and application of clinical pharmacology to dose individualization..
This is an advanced module and it is assumed that students are familiar with the basic principles of drug disposition, pharmacokinetics and mechanisms of drug action.
Aims
The aims of this module are to:
- Illustrate the application of pharmacological science to treatment of disease in humans
- Critically evaluate clinical pharmacology resources
Learning outcomes
A student who has successfully completed this module will have:
- A firm background in how pharmacology and pharmacokinetics in particular can be applied throughout the human life span
- Understood how clinical pharmacology enhances the process of dose individualization and treatment of patients
Skills
A student who has successfully completed this course will have:
- An ability to use principles of pharmacology in the clinical use of medicines
- Skills in appreciation of variability and how it can be described and predicted
- Had experience of calculating loading and maintenance doses
- Been involved in decisions about monitoring treatment and target concentration intervention.
Teaching sessions will be conducted using Zoom teleconference sessions. If you are enrolled in this paper and are experiencing difficulties with this website, please contact the module coordinator n.holford@auckland.ac.nz
